There’s a lot of hesitation to couple our horse to another media company which could quickly shut down or discard us. Especially since the experience there isn’t awesome I started this with feedback from other oppos,  I don’t know if it’ll be our forever home, but it’s a solid option right now.

The mobile authoring experience is very, very poor. For Oppo I have often composed a short-medium length piece while wandering through a store, e.g., and you literally cannot do that with DriveTribe.

Plus it’s so hard to keep up with the new articles because photos are so big, the amount of wasted space, the lack of timestamps... I’m used to dropping in on Oppo a few times a day and it takes just a few seconds to figure out what I’ve missed because I can see so much context around each post and quickly remember where I last checked in.

DT ain’t like that at all.

I’ll admit I still love fat clients for a lot of things.  Web version are great, but you can’t alt-tab to them and maybe that’s my old tech nerd complaint.

Yeah, server’s overloaded. This is running on a tiny test server now . With the responses I’ve got I’m taking it down a midnight eastern for maintenance and an upgrade. That should help.

If you try again in a few minutes though it also seems to let most people in when it catches up.

I have zero tab management skills though. Right now I have 5 different chrome windows up some with like 2 dozen tabs in them.

It’s a problem for sure, but also why my desktop has 16gb of memory.

I like most of what I’m seeing so far! It doesn’t have all the features that Kinja offered, but it’s definitely got more than DriveTribe.

I do wonder about traffic though. Would this just be a “retirement home” for us refugees or do you think Oppo sitelock is a big enough brand that we might continue to attract new members? Under Kinja, we had a kind of proximity to Jalopnik that would occasionally bring in new users. I suspect that DriveTribe would have a similar effect as well. I wonder if Oppo is better off being part of an existing blogosphere like that, or if we’re really ready to be our own standalone site.
